The e-Conference on The Future of Security Sector Reform, which ran from May 4-8th 2009 has closed. We thank all those who participated in the virtual event. The response from our participants was fantastic. There were over 250 posts and more than 375 unique visitors from 50 countries. You may read the summaries for each day’s discussion here.
Also, if you took part in our event and have not yet filled out our survey, please do so here.
The Centre for International Governance Innovation’s work on SSR did not end with the e-Conference. This website (www.ssrfuture.org) will be transitioned into a standing webpage that will serve as a focal point for multimedia resources on SSR; a hub for networking among SSR practitioners, observers, and policymakers; and a home for CIGI’s original research products on SSR.
Those original research products will include:
· An e-Conference Report highlighting the major themes and issues discussed during the week-long dialogue, drawing out the main conclusions that emerged.
· An e-Book compiling the papers presented at the conference, along with several newly commissioned essays, to be released in the Fall of 2009.
· A new quarterly publication examining SSR developments and trends in specific countries called the Security Sector Reform Monitor. Based on field-based research, the Monitor will comprise separate reports for five case study countries: Afghanistan, Burundi, East Timor, Haiti and South Sudan. The first Monitor was released in May 2009 and can be accessed here.
Please come back to this site in August of 2009 to access all these materials and more. In the meantime sign up for our mailing list at: [email protected]
